What is Windows? Components and types of a Windows.

Windows:
A Windows is a multitasking OS that allows computers users to run one or more application(s) at a time.

A Window is two dimensional shaped box that can contain file(s), utilities or other software features.A window appears upon a Desktop screen.


Desktop:
A desktop is the basic working area  that is displayed whenever a GUI based windows operating system becomes operational.Desktop screen is used to place various components/events/files/folders in the form of icons.A desktop supports several other features and services like Background,Task,Bar,Start Button,Short-cuts etc.
Components of Windows:
Various major components of a typical windows are shown in the figure.

 (a)Border/Frame:It refers to the outer boundary or panel frame of the windows.It is used for resizing a windows.
(b)Title Bar:It displays the name of current file,running application and the names of group directory or folders.
(c)Menu Bar: Menu Bar is displayed below the title bar.It contains list of various menus available for the current application and so on.
Types of Windows:
A windows may be divided into two types:

1.Application Windows:It contains the running or active application/programs.For example,Word,Excel.Only one application windows can be make active at one time.

2.Document Windows:It appears as subset of running application window.

for example,any work application may have several document windows.Each document window has its own title bar,and has to depend on application window for majority of components.
